Type One Energy Earns Recognition from Fast Company on World’s Most Innovative Companies List for 2026

Type One Energy was recently named to the Fast Company list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2026.
The annual ranking includes the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies, as well as lists for 59 industries and sectors, from advertising to video. Type One Energy made the Top 10 list in the category for smaller companies with a headcount between 51 and 200 employees.
“This year’s most innovative smaller companies prove that headcount doesn’t cap ambition. These Small and Mighty standouts are thinking well beyond their size, unleashing inventive ideas to meet the issues remaking the wider world,” wrote Gabriela Riccardi of Fast Company.
The editors of Fast Company cited several milestones achieved in the last year at Type One Energy, including:
- Publication of a peer-reviewed physics basis in the Journal of Plasma Physics,
- Submission of the initial licensing application for a fusion power plant,
- Advancements in high-temperature superconducting magnets, and
- The September 2025 agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority, which outlines the path to building a fusion power plant in East Tennessee by the mid-2030s.
“For all the unknowns surrounding artificial intelligence—how quickly it will advance, and which industries it could disrupt—we do have this certainty: It’s going to take a lot of power. Type One Energy is moving to meet the moment with a push to bring fusion energy out of the lab and into the grid,” wrote Gabriela Riccardi.
Earning a place on the annual Fast Company list is recognition for every team member at Type One Energy, especially those on the company’s technical teams. “Our plans to create fusion electricity within a decade are propelled by innovations that make a stellarator fusion power plant efficient, reliable, affordable, and easier to build and maintain,” said Thomas Sunn Pedersen, Chief Technology Officer at Type One Energy.
